INK PREVIEW: Oops.

Pffft.

I’d completed the review of Montblanc’s Winter Glow and then went to my stash – grabbed four red inks out of my red inks sample bag – and above is the result.

Dude. Those aren’t red. Maybeeeeeee Rouge Caroubier is close – but even it is more of a pinky color.

Heaven only knows why I didn’t stop after the first – or the second – OR THE THIRD – but I kept right on going.

So..what you have here is a mess. But at least you can see the swab of Winter Glow and a bit of writing. It’s darker than I thought it would be coming out of the pen.

I’ll get a proper review of Winter Glow done soon.

After I try sorting my samples by color one more time 😉

INK REVIEW: Diamine – Syrah

Still recovering from the holidays here and wrapping up a few pre-scheduled reviews before diving into new and exciting things!

Syrah from Diamine is a berry nice shade. Kinda red-purple. Deep plum. And by now, everyone knows how I feel about “mixed shades” of ink. I’m not a huge fan.

Here’s the ugly. Major fail. (Those of you who watch “How I Met Your Mother” may now salute. Those of you who have no clue about which I speak may also salute. Major Fail – get it?)  Anyway, major fail = water test. Even the tiny droplet test (where the “ro” in “from” should be) faded this color into nothingness.

I used a dip pen and Syrah performed well enough. No big complaints, but no big compliments either.

Look at that compare square?  I do think if the writer is looking for something dark, but different, this could work (as long as one never nears the water).

It was a little wet as you can see in the Smear Here – but not intolerable.

Overall, I’d give Syrah from Diamine a good solid C. It would work, but I’m not in love. In looking at other reviews after I wrote this one – this is a popular ink. People love it and its color. Consider me the dissenting reviewer.
Such a contrarian.
What do you think? Love it?

INK REVIEW: Pilot Iroshizuku – Momiji

Yikes!
Is it pink? It is red? It’s – rose. Momiji from Pilot Iroshizuku is pretty, pretty, pretty, and BRIGHT! In yo face!
It almost glows blue, yes?
Momiji is also known as Autumn Leaves – not sure why.
But pink ink? I don’t know. I just don’t know! Definitely girly. But what possible use could one have for this? Love letters? You know what I mean? Journaling, perhaps. But I’m not 12 and I don’t dot my letters with hearts. (Usually.)

Momiji is $28 all over the place. And while that’s not a lot of money, it is on the high side for ink. And there are so many inks out there. So many I need to have. I’m going to pass on this one. For now. Unless I find can’t.

But if I’m ever in the market for pink/red/rose – this is going to be my color.

Even if it does schmear all over the place in the water test (even the droplet is a fail). Even if it was a bit of a pain to clean the pen after using. Even if it doesn’t have much shading. It’s that POW of color that has me.

Seriously, though. It wrote great, just like the other Iroshizuku inks. And if this color is your thing, I say go for it. I’m saving my pennies for something else. Probably, anyway. I don’t know!  What do you think? Love it? Hate it?

Here’s what others are saying…
