A nice brown with a bit of red, Private Reserve Chocolat is an ink that I reviewed way back in 2013. Even though I said at the time that I would be putting it into heavy use, I don’t think I’ve had it in a pen since. Maybe it’s time to give it another go.

INK SWAB: 192/365 – Private Reserve Arabian Rose
Here’s a link to my full review of Private Reserve Arabian Rose.
INK SWAB: 182/365 – Private Reserve Ebony Purple
Another Private Reserve ink for today. This time, Ebony Purple. I love the deep dark richness of it. Goulet Pens included this ink in their January Ink Drop. Thinking about picking up a bottle of this one. So many purple inks, so little time.
INK SWAB: 181/365 – Private Reserve Buttercup
Man, I love Private Reserve Buttercup. It’s very difficult to use for writing because it’s so darned hard to see on the page. But it’s really pretty. Here’s my review on it from 2013.
INK SWAB: 167/365 – Private Reserve Copper Burst
People like Private Reserve Copper Burst. I can definitely see why – the color is decent and there is a so much potential for shading. Unfortunately, when I wrote with this ink earlier this year, I found it to be super-duper crazy dry. Maybe I’ll try a fresh sample in a different pen one day and see if that makes a difference.
Tell me what you think of this ink? I’d love to hear all about your experiences with it.
INK SWAB: 147/365 – Private Reserve DC Supershow Violet
INK SWAB: 47/365 – Private Reserve American Blue
INK SWAB: 26/365 – Private Reserve Fiesta Red
Fiesta Red is a pleasant brown/red shade. I’m not sure I’d call it a party color, but there you go.
I store all of my ink samples in a dark cabinet. Fiesta Red is the only ink (that I’ve noticed so far) that has turned a different color. It faded to almost the shade of a band-aid. I don’t know why this happened, but I know that after I saw it, I got myself busy swabbing all of my inks samples. Thank you, Fiesta Red!
INK DROP: January 2015 (Spoilers)
January 2015 Ink Drop from Goulet Pens
I received January’s Ink Drop from Goulet Pens earlier this week.
I usually super-saturate cotton swabs with ink before swiping across the paper, but this time, I barely barely got the cotton wet with ink. I thinking maybe this gives a more accurate idea of what the ink would look like from a pen? If you have thoughts, I’d love to hear them.
I’m about to reveal the inks from top to bottom. If you don’t want to know, this is the time to look away.
- De Atramentis Black Edition-Brown – I know, it looks kind of purply to me, too (it’s not just the scan)
- Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris
- Noodler’s X-Feather – this stuff is great if you’re looking for an ink that doesn’t feather or spread
- Private Reserve Ebony Purple – another ink I adore
- Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite
And the theme? Safe for Work
I like most of these inks – going to have to look at the De Atramentis a bit more, though. What are you thinking? Safe for work?
INK SWAB: 3/365 – Private Reserve Black Magic Blue
Day three of ink swabs makes me feel like this is really happening. Only 362 days to go!
Private Reserve’s Black Magic Blue is an ink I’ve reviewed in the past. Spoiler: I love it. The name doesn’t exactly match the color as I see a bunch of purple in both the swab above and the samples in the review.
It’s been awhile since I’ve inked a pen with this ink and seeing it again here is making me hunger (thirst?) for it a bit.
Oh, hey, I’m making progress on getting the new site filled in. There’s a fresh About Me page. Check it out.
